Having a trash shoot in an apartment is a convenient way for apartment managers to collect the tenants’ garbage, and they’re convenient for tenants to drop off trash too. But if you’re in charge of collecting that trash after it’s been dropped off, you know just how stinky it can be. And while some may think it’s a laughing matter, if it’s your job, you fully know otherwise. In some cases, the smell can become so bad that it makes it difficult to even remain near it long enough to collect the garbage. And where there’s odor, there’s most surely noxious fumes of some sort so you really do have to be careful when dealing with things like trash shoot odor.
You’re not going to be able to avoid cleaning the bin if you’re trying to remove trash shoot odor. Make sure you use a very strong cleaner, preferably one that contains bleach or ammonia. This will be enough to thoroughly clean the bin and get rid of any bacteria that’s lingering inside. Of course, these types of cleaners do also contain their own harsh chemicals and toxins so you’ll want to be careful if you’re using something with those ingredients. To make sure that you fully remove all the odor, you’ll probably also want to clean the outside of the container and the area surrounding it.
This doesn’t mean that you need to spend a great amount of time cleaning it, rinsing it, and drying it though. Just spray Avanflex in the trash shoot, on the exterior of the shoot, and any surface areas around it where you think odor molecules may still be lurking. Then, just walk away. The next time you need to clean out the trash shoot, it won’t be nearly as much of a chore, and you’ll be able to do it in a fresh-smelling space!
