How To Get Rid Of That Apartment Hallway Odor

If you manage an apartment building, or even just live in an apartment building, then you’ve probably noticed that the hallways are breeding grounds for weird, funky smells. The question of why this space gets so smelly in such a short period of time really isn’t a mystery. And neither is the question of how to get the apartment hallway odor out.

The hallways of apartment buildings are small, tight spaces that usually don’t have any windows. They are also areas of high traffic, with many people going through them every day to get to and from their apartments. In addition to that, apartment hallways will easily pick up the cooking smells, cigarette smells, and other smells coming from inside the individual apartments. All of this adds up to very stinky apartment hallways, and what might seem like a big job for you if you’re the one who’s responsible for getting rid of it. But, removing apartment hallway odor really isn’t that hard.

If there are any windows, your first step should be to open them. There usually aren’t any located in the hallways but even if there are some at the end of the hallway, in a lobby or meeting area, open those to get as much ventilation as you can. Then, you’ll need to find the source of the apartment hallway smell. Often, as is the case with most of the apartment hallway smells mentioned above, the source of the smell won’t be immediately obvious. Or, there simply may not be a lot you can do about it. After all, you can’t ask the residents to stop cooking in their homes or to stop walking through the hallways.

There are however sources of apartment hallway smells that you can do something about. If the area is carpeted for instance, check the carpet and try to notice if there is a smell coming from it. With so many wet boots and shoes walking across it, if the hallway is carpeted, it could be growing mould, which would certainly smell badly. And of course, you can also look for things like a forgotten garbage bag or other obvious signs of odor. If you do find any of these things, you’ll need to remove them if possible.

If there are items that you can’t move, such as carpet, or the source of the apartment hallway odor is something beyond your control, our Room Shocker Time Release will get rid of the apartment hallway odor for you. After being released into the air, this product will find the odor-causing molecules and destroy them – taking them right out of the air. This means that if you have carpet in the hallway, the chlorine dioxide in this product will find them, go to work, and destroy them. So you have the same old carpet, without the nasty old smell.

But, that apartment hallway odor is most likely going to come back, as long as people keep living in the building and keep using the hallway. After you’re finished getting rid of the smell the first time, use Room Shocker every 30 days or so to always keep the hallway smelling fresh and clean.
